OSU South Cannon Garage

OSU South Cannon Garage

Garage Renovation

When Wexner Medical Center planned the new James Cancer Hospital, it incorporated welcomed upgrades to the South Cannon Garage. Patients, visitors, and staff all are now able to enjoy major traffic circulation improvements and interior renovations. For example, vehicles access the garage and upper decks from a new, convenient entrance—at the forecourt of the new hospital, instead of from 10th Avenue. An enclosed vestibule and corridor now connect both the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute to the garage’s vertical circulation core.

BDT designers made a concerted effort to consistently apply the newly established materials and color palette used throughout the Medical Center expansion. The main lobby of the garage facility received finish upgrades, including the replacement of the two elevator cabs, stone cladding, and translucent glazing used to obscure vehicles. A proposed backdrop for the respite garden and forecourt—a geometric metal mesh screen wall, to be attached to the east and partial south elevations—was postponed because of funding constraints.
