Today’s most forward-thinking entrepreneurs and developers combine function, social impact, and aesthetics in everything they do. When Athens Real Estate was designing a comfortable, modern place to operate its burgeoning real estate company, owners also envisioned a cultural hub for the neighborhood.
The office and coffee shop, which is located on the western edge of a college town in southeast Ohio, realizes both aims. The steel and glass façade, framed by a shed-style roof, offers an unobstructed scenic view of the Hocking River—and evokes the natural, sustainable feel of the building itself. To the designers, the inside-out, riverside vantage point from both café and offices proves that staff and clients can work and play at the same time.
The owner was also committed to resource and energy conservation, along with environmental accountability. Therefore, the building was designed and built to optimize available local resources, and achieved LEED Basic certification.
